Family Support
Family Support Programs
Child Care Network's Family Support Programs have been in the Ann Arbor community for over twenty three years. They are currently
available in Washtenaw, Jackson and Monroe Counties. These programs provide parents with financial assistance for their child care costs so
that they may access licensed, quality day care. This assistance helps families move toward their goal of becoming self-sufficient and
successful in life. In turn, their children are able to experience high quality early care and learning that is stable, safe and nurturing,
making them better prepared for school and for life.
Family Support Programs help low income parents in several situations. We can help qualifying parents who:
- are working.
- going to school.
- in crisis situations, such as domestic violence or homelessness.
- who have just lost their jobs and need to keep their children in day care so they can look for work.
- grandparents raising grandchildren.
In addition to financial assistance, each of our Family Support Specialists provides parents with a multitude of case management services
ranging from referrals to licensed child care sites to finding assistance with food and rent.

Why families need your help!
Child scholarships and family support.
- In 2005, the average cost of licensed child care in a center in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area is $10,023 for an infant!
- If you are a single parent with one child, with an income of $19,284 per year – YOU MAKE TOO MUCH MONEY TO RECEIVE STATE HELP
WITH CHILD CARE. Often, a parent in these circumstances would pay up to 40% of their gross income on the care of their child.
- Without the help of the Child Care Scholarship and Family Support Program many parents must work two jobs to afford day care, rent,
groceries and other daily necessities. They also have very limited options for child care – the care they can afford is unstable
and must be rearranged frequently, it is often poor quality care.
- Medical science shows that the majority of human brain growth and development takes place from birth to age five. Quality of
child/adult interactions during this time is critical to the development of language, cognitive and social/emotional abilities in
children. These abilities affect their success in school and in life.
- Child Care Network's Family Support Program helps low income working families and families in severe crises (such as homelessness
and domestic violence) pay up to 75% of the cost of licensed, safe child care.
- CCN's Family Support Programs have helped over 4,500 families since they began in 1982.
- Today, CCN is able to help about 480 children per year.
- There are an estimated 4,000 families in our five county area that would be eligible for CCN's Family Support Programs but not enough
funds to assist them.

A few quotes from past scholarship recipients:
"It gave me comfort that I can be both a success in my life and my daughter's life. To me it is important to have her see her mother
succeed."
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the child care scholarships. Please continue the wonderful work you do helping families
help themselves."
"Words will never explain how much your support has helped the three of us. Thank you for your support and for your understanding of
my current situation."
"Now I can go to work full time and provide my little sweetheart with everything that she so deserves, and maybe now there will be a
lot more smiles around the house, with the stress that has been lifted off our shoulders."
Thank You:
Child Care Network would like to extend a big "Thank You" to the Rotary
Club of Ann Arbor for their generosity and award of $3,000 to our Family
Support Program. This money will help 8 to 10 children in the Ann Arbor
community enroll in licensed child care and camp
while simultaneously relieving a financial burden for the parents. CCN staff,
Board and especially the parents greatly appreciate the Rotary Club's support . Thank you, thank you!
