Screens and Little Minds: How to Support Healthy Media Use
This presentation by Dr. Jenny Radesky, provides an evidence-based review of what is known about early childhood media use and child development, including language, social, and emotional development. Topics around newer forms of media like smartphones/tablets, apps, YouTube, and streaming video will be discussed, including descriptions of the design features (e.g., algorithms, “likes”) that encourage longer usage.
Dr. Radesky is a media researcher, developmental behavioral pediatrician, and co-Medical Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health.
